On 28 January 2026, the Humanity for Development and Prosperity Organization (HDPO) conducted Psychosocial Support (PSS) sessions and a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness session at Al-Abbasi Center (B) in Mellit Locality, North Darfur, targeting internally displaced persons affected by conflict and displacement.

The activity was implemented under the project Provision of Integrated Emergency Lifesaving Health and Basic Protection Services for Conflict-Affected Population in Mellit Locality, North Darfur, implemented by HDPO in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sudan through the Rapid Response Fund (RRF) and funded by the U.S. Department of State.

The intervention aimed to provide basic psychosocial support to children exposed to violence and women affected by abuse, while also raising community awareness on gender-based violence, including the harmful impacts of female genital mutilation (FGM), child protection principles, and positive parenting practices.

A total of 259 beneficiaries participated in the activity, including 113 children, 131 women, and 15 men. Services delivered included two structured group-based PSS sessions and one GBV awareness session, implemented through community-based protection mechanisms in coordination with community representatives.

Despite access and logistical constraints, the activity was successfully conducted and contributed to improving access to basic psychosocial and protection services for vulnerable populations. HDPO, in coordination with IOM Sudan, will continue implementing protection interventions under the project, with a focus on child-focused psychosocial support, GBV prevention, and survivor-centered approaches.
