HDPO Launches Dignity Kit Distribution for IDPs and Host Communities in Mellit, North Darfur

Humanity for Development and Prosperity Organization (HDPO) launched the distribution of 350 dignity kits for vulnerable women and girls across IDP camps and host communities in Mellit Locality, North Darfur. The activity is implemented in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sudan through the Rapid Response Fund (RRF) and funded by the U.S. Department of State.

Due to the unavailability of dignity kits through the humanitarian supply pipeline, HDPO conducted direct procurement following humanitarian standards and guidance from UNFPA and the Gender-Based Violence Area of Responsibility (GBV AoR). Each kit contains essential hygiene and personal care items designed to support menstrual hygiene management and protect the dignity of women and girls in humanitarian settings.

The first distribution took place on 11 March 2026 at Al-Abbasi (B) IDP Camp, implemented in coordination with camp coordination committees, camp administration, the camp health committee, IOM representatives, HDPO’s Community-Based Protection Network (CBPN), and the HDPO project implementation team. On the first day, 83 dignity kits were successfully distributed 50 to internally displaced households and 33 to host community households reflecting HDPO’s inclusive approach to supporting both displaced populations and the communities hosting them. Distribution also extended to Al-Wahda, Al-Thanawiya, and Al-Guba neighborhoods, ensuring that vulnerable host community families received equal access to assistance.

Beneficiary identification was carried out through a KoboToolbox digital registration system, covering both IDP and host community households and prioritizing female-headed households, pregnant or lactating women, households with persons with disabilities, families without stable income, and recently displaced families.

Community members from both IDP and host community populations, alongside camp leadership and neighborhood committee representatives, welcomed the intervention with each distribution conducted in their presence to ensure transparency, community participation, and accountability to affected populations.

HDPO will continue distributing kits until all 350 verified IDP and host community households are reached and will conduct Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM) to assess the effectiveness of the intervention. HDPO remains committed to delivering inclusive, needs-based, people-centered protection services for both displaced and host communities in North Darfur, in coordination with humanitarian partners and local authorities.
