Humanity for Development and Prosperity Organization (HDPO), in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sudan and with funding from the U.S. Department of State, successfully supported and handed over two safe spaces dedicated to women and children in Mellit Locality, North Darfur. The handover ceremony took place on 25 March 2026 at Al-Marabee Area and Al-Abbasi (B) IDP Camp, marking a significant milestone in HDPO’s ongoing protection and psychosocial support programming across displacement-affected communities in Sudan.
The handover was conducted in the presence of community leaders, neighborhood committees, and Community-Based Protection Network (CBPN) members, reflecting HDPO’s commitment to community-led, inclusive approaches in humanitarian response. Both safe spaces were equipped with a comprehensive package of recreational, educational, and hygiene materials to ensure they are fully operational from day one. Materials provided included 20 chairs, 20 mats, 10 footballs, 10 volleyballs, 80 toys, 4 whiteboards, 30 boxes of marker pens, 93 books, 20 boxes of pencils and pens, 5 tables, 4 volleyball nets, 20 whistles, 2 handwashing facilities, and 6 boxes of soap.
All materials were transferred in good condition and formally documented through signed handover records, ensuring accountability and transparency in the delivery of services.
The safe spaces are designed to provide women and children in displacement settings with protective environments where they can access recreational activities, non-formal learning, and psychosocial support all critical components of dignity and resilience in humanitarian contexts.
This activity is implemented by HDPO with the support of IOM Sudan and funded by the U.S. Department of State, as part of broader efforts to strengthen protection systems and community resilience in conflict-affected areas of Sudan.
HDPO remains committed to expanding its reach and deepening the quality of its humanitarian programming in partnership with international and community-based stakeholders across North Darfur and beyond.
