Humanity for Development and Prosperity Organization (HDPO) conducted a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) field activity in Bamna Area, North Darfur in February 2026, focusing on household water treatment and hygiene promotion to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases.
The activity was implemented under the project Restoring Lives of Affected Families and Communities through Integrated Emergency Response in Sudan II, implemented by HDPO with partner support from Relief International and funding from the U.S. Department of State / USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (USAID/BHA).
The intervention aimed to strengthen community awareness on safe drinking water practices, reinforce correct use of chlorine for household water treatment, and enhance the role of the Bamna Water Committee in promoting and monitoring water safety at community level.
A refresher training was conducted for three members of the Bamna Water Committee, covering correct chlorine dosage, safe handling and storage, and community monitoring responsibilities. This was followed by practical, hands-on demonstrations on preparing chlorine-treated water and applying correct safety measures at household level.
In addition, chlorine was distributed to 50 targeted households, with each household receiving direct, on-site guidance on correct application and safe water storage practices. Strong community engagement was observed, with participants actively seeking clarification on dosage, safety, and effectiveness.
The activity strengthened community capacity in preventive WASH practices, improved household water safety, and supported local efforts to reduce waterborne diseases. HDPO will continue follow-up and monitoring to ensure sustained adoption of household water treatment practices in Bamna.
