HDPO Delivers Large-Scale Psychosocial Support Session for IDPs in Mellit Locality, North Darfur

To address the urgent psychosocial needs of conflict-affected populations, the Humanity for Development and Prosperity Organization (HDPO) conducted a structured, group-based Psychosocial Support (PSS) session on 21 January 2026 at Kitab Shukran Center in Mellit Locality, North Darfur.

The activity targeted internally displaced persons (IDPs) and was implemented as part of HDPO’s protection programming, focusing on children, women, and other vulnerable groups affected by displacement, violence, and conflict-related trauma.

A total of 967 beneficiaries participated in the session, including 500 children, 300 women, and 167 men. The intervention aimed to promote emotional well-being, restore a sense of safety, and strengthen coping mechanisms through culturally appropriate and participatory psychosocial approaches.

Activities included expressive drawing and art, interactive theatre, traditional music and cultural dances, structured group games for young children, sports activities, and the distribution of symbolic gifts. Awareness sessions also addressed positive interaction with children in displacement settings and the harmful impacts of female genital mutilation (FGM).

The activity was implemented by HDPO in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sudan through the Rapid Response Fund (RRF), with funding from the U.S. Department of State. Despite access challenges, the session was successfully delivered and received strong positive feedback from the community.

HDPO reaffirms its commitment to sustaining structured psychosocial support services as a core component of its humanitarian response, supporting recovery, resilience, and community healing for conflict-affected populations in Mellit Locality.
