Humanity for Development and Prosperity Organization (HDPO) conducted the formation and one-day refresher training of a Community-Based Protection Network (CBPN) in Tina Locality, North Darfur State, on 19 January 2026.
The activity was implemented under the project Restoring Lives of Affected Families and Communities through Integrated Emergency Response in Sudan II, with implementation support from Relief International and funding from U.SDepartmentofState / the USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA).
The intervention aimed to strengthen community-led protection mechanisms by empowering trusted community members to identify, monitor, and safely respond to protection risks affecting conflict-affected populations, particularly women, children, older persons, and persons with disabilities.
A total of 20 community members including community leaders, volunteers, and active women—were selected based on community trust, commitment to voluntary service, and prior engagement in community initiatives. Gender balance was ensured to promote inclusive and effective participation.
The refresher training focused on core protection concepts, community-based protection principles, roles and responsibilities of CBPN members, safe reporting and referral pathways, and Do No Harm, confidentiality, dignity, and accountability principles, using participatory and context-based methodologies.
The activity resulted in the successful establishment of one functional CBPN, improved understanding of protection risks and referral mechanisms, and strong commitment from members to continue voluntary protection work.
This initiative represents a key step toward strengthening community ownership, safety, and dignity within Tina Locality as part of HDPO’s humanitarian response in North Darfur.
