HDPO Constructs and Rehabilitates Emergency Latrines to Improve Sanitation in South Al Fasher, North Darfur

Humanity for Development and Prosperity Organization (HDPO) has completed the construction of 50 emergency shared latrines and the rehabilitation of 60 existing latrines in Al-Thawra, Al-Salam, and Al-Wahda neighborhoods of South Al Fasher, North Darfur, following a detailed field assessment to identify urgent sanitation needs.

The intervention targeted internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities and was implemented in close cooperation with community sheikhs and resistance committees, ensuring community participation, ownership, and culturally appropriate solutions.

This activity forms part of HDPO’s integrated emergency project delivering coordinated services across Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Protection, and Health, aimed at improving public health conditions, reducing environmental risks, and enhancing dignity and safety in displacement-affected areas.

The project is funded by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Through these efforts, HDPO continues to strengthen access to safe sanitation facilities, mitigate health risks, and deliver timely, community-driven humanitarian responses that address the urgent needs of vulnerable populations in North Darfur.
