Humanity for Development and Prosperity Organization (HDPO) conducted a four-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on the production of fuel-efficient stoves from 21–24 July 2026, under the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Project. The training was delivered through two parallel sessions in Kassab, Galabat Al Garbia, and Doka, Galabat Al Shargia, bringing together representatives from 20 targeted villages.
The activity trained 20 village-level trainers, with one representative selected from each targeted village. The ToT aimed to build practical local capacity to construct and promote fuel-efficient stoves while enabling participants to transfer their knowledge directly to households and communities. This cascading approach is designed to extend the reach and sustainability of the intervention beyond the initial training participants.
The activity was implemented by HDPO with partner and support from IOM Sudan and funded by the United Nations Peacekeeping. Through the training, HDPO has established a network of village-level trainers who will support community members in adopting fuel-efficient stove production, contributing to environmental protection, local capacity development, and longer-term community resilience across the 20 targeted villages.
The training combined hands-on, step-by-step instruction in stove design and construction with guidance on how participants can replicate the training within their respective villages. The intervention responds to continued reliance on traditional cooking methods and the associated pressure on biomass resources, including deforestation and excessive firewood consumption, while promoting more sustainable community-level energy practices.
The training was implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources and the Sudanese Association for Environmental Protection, strengthening coordination between community structures, government stakeholders, and environmental actors. A joint closing gathering brought together the 20 participants from both training sites to consolidate learning and agree on the next steps for community-level roll-out.
