Humanitarian partners, in coordination with the Local Ministry of Health and with the participation of the Humanity for Development and Prosperity Organization (HDPO), organized a Pink October breast cancer awareness event at Hami Displacement Camp. The event brought together community members, health professionals, Ministry of Health representatives, and health focal points from humanitarian organizations to promote women’s health and strengthen community awareness.
The event featured awareness sessions delivered by Dr. Ahmed Hamed, Obstetrician and Gynecologist, highlighting breast cancer prevention, the importance of early detection, and available approaches to identifying potential warning signs. The sessions aimed to improve community understanding and encourage women to seek timely medical advice when needed.
To encourage participation and make health messages more accessible, the programme also included sports, cultural and traditional activities, drama performances, interactive competitions, and the distribution of gifts. These participatory activities helped create opportunities for community engagement while reinforcing key messages on breast health and preventive care.
The event demonstrated the value of collaboration between HDPO, humanitarian partners, and the Local Ministry of Health in promoting health awareness and community participation. Through its engagement in coordinated awareness initiatives, HDPO continues to support partnerships that strengthen health knowledge, community resilience, and access to essential health information in conflict-affected communities in North Darfur.
