HDPO Strengthens Emergency Health Response Capacity of Medical Staff and Volunteers in El Fasher, North Darfur

Recognizing the vital role of health workers in emergency response and community health promotion, the Humanity for Development and Prosperity Organization (HDPO) conducted two three-day capacity-building workshops in El Fasher, North Darfur, as part of its ongoing integrated humanitarian response.

The first workshop targeted 30 medical staff, with 50% female participation, while the second trained 50 community volunteers, also with 50% female representation, drawn from IDP settlements and host communities in South El Fasher. The trainings aimed to enhance frontline capacity to respond effectively to public health risks in emergency and displacement settings.

The workshops covered a wide range of critical topics, including psychosocial counseling, referral pathways, community hygiene promotion, cholera, dengue fever, malaria, communicable diseases, and sexual and reproductive health, among others.

The sessions were facilitated by qualified trainers from the North Darfur State Ministry of Health, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with national health standards.

These trainings were implemented as part of HDPO’s emergency integrated project delivering coordinated services across Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Protection, and Health, targeting internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in South El Fasher.

The project is funded by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sudan with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Through these capacity-building efforts, HDPO continues to reinforce local health systems, promote gender-balanced participation, and support effective, community-centered emergency health responses in North Darfur.
