New emergencies and attacks on civilians in Gerieda – HDPO requests urgent donations/funds

A Fresh attack in Gerieda since yesterday (1, March, 2021) from a group of militia, the local sources reported that at least 14 people were killed inside the town while hundreds of houses with all the households were burnt totally and number of people were also reported to be injured and some missing.

The town’s  phone network was shutdown hence getting the accurate information was still not easy.

HDPO was and is still at standby to send its team to Gerieda whenever the access was possible hence HDPO is urgently requesting all the humanitarian donors to support its initiatives of the possible intention and provide the lifesaving support services such as water, supply food & none food items, health and protection support services.

Gerieda is located in South Darfur state with a total population of over 130,000 with the majority of them being the internally displaced people. The town has experienced several attacks by the militia groups since Darfur conflict started. Also the majority of the population are from Masaliet tribe and they have a historical conflict with Falata and Arabs who usually surround Gerieda.
